Playing strategy for Texas Hold'em Poker

Texas Hold’em Poker is certainly not a difficult game to play.  In fact, many poker players begin their poker careers learning how to play the game.  It is actually an incredibly easy game to learn which is why it is so popular among beginner players.  But it is always good – with any games – that once the basic rules have been mastered – to develop a playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker.  Most players who see themselves as experts on the subject, have a general consensus as to the best playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker.

Obviously it is essential to understand the rules to the game first – and the major difference between Texas Hold’em and other variants of poker is the 2 cards that are dealt to players as opposed to 4 and the fact that players do have the option of not playing them both in an attempt to get a winning combination.  For one to develop a successful playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker, one must have a comprehension of the some of the basic principles in the game, the first being that it is a high card game (as opposed to lo, as in hi-lo).  What this means is that those players who have the highest cards ultimately will have the strongest possibility of getting the best hand.  So early on in the game, it is wise – as a playing strategy – to try and only play one’s high cards.  Alternatively, if you do not have high cards, if you think there is a good chance of seeing the flop in the game at a reasonable price, play medium strength cards.  But playing strong high cards is the general rule of thumb for success in Texas Hold’em Poker.  And play them strong too, taking as many raises as possible.

Another important feature when developing one’s playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker is to see what is going on with the competition and try and eliminate it as much as possible; that is another way one can be aggressive in playing the game.  another idea is that one should be ready to fold a high pair if there seems to be a lot of action in the game with a threatening flop.

A quick glance at different Texas hold’em sites on the Internet will result in a whole array of various strategies for playing the game well and ultimately winning.  Most include a push to play high pairs aggressively, especially before the flop since more money will be put in the pot and any bad hands will more likely fold, improving your own chances.  It is a generally thought to be a mistake to draw to the low end or both ends of a straight.  Look out for flops of 7, 8, 9, as at this time you should be playing the Jack and 10 as opposed to the 5 and 6 or 10 and 6.

If you have any medium and low cards that are not connected and thus difficult to play (including suited cards which cannot flop a straight), play cautiously and carefully with low pairs.  But another time you should be looking to play aggressively in developing your winning playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker is when you have a two way draw following a flop.  In this case, if it is possible, try and make a straight as well as a flush.

There are a ton of other ideas that have been developed by so-called Texas Hold’em player experts.  But the game should be about you and you should be able to enjoy it as an individual so make it about your style.  It is fun as well as good to bluff here and there and even more fun when you are caught.  Plus, some even suggest getting caught as part of a playing strategy for Texas Hold’em Poker as it varies play and shows you as an unpredictable player to be wary of.  Study how the other players play the game and respond to that as well, but most of all, have fun in your game as that is the best recipe for winning any game.
