Improve Your Poker Play

When you play poker you want to do the best that you can without losing too much money. You also want to make as much from each hand, but there are certain things you need to consider. First of all you can’t win every hand. The cards are too random in the dealing to get a win each time. Sometimes luck is just luck. To help you improve your poker play we have compiled a list of top ten areas you might improve in.

1. Don’t play every hand. Sure you don’t want to lose the initial bet, but if you have nothing you can’t always win. You will need to fold a bit more if you have always played every hand out to the end. Playing more doesn’t mean you will win more. In fact it usually means you will lose more.

2. Don’t play when you are intoxicated. It may be fun to have alcohol during your games, but think of the consequences. There is a reason the top world poker players are sober during a game. Getting plastered will lose you money, even with friends.

3. Bluffing has a time and place. Don’t just bluff because it says to in the strategy. Have a reason to bluff, and make sure you wait to bluff until you understand the players’ tells at the table. Bluffs only work in certain ways against certain players.

4. Don’t throw money in the pot. Back out of a hand if nothing comes to fruition; again it is more to that rule of don’t play every hand, but this also means fold at any betting point and the earlier the better if you have nothing.

5. Don’t call at the end of a hand without a reason. Some players do it just to keep the player honest, but you may miss a tell or upset the play later on.

6. Play in a good mood. If you lose focus you will lose money. Play when you are in a good mind set.

7. Pay attention to the cards on the table and in your hand. Don’t concentrate too much on other things around you like the other players.

8. You still have to concentrate on the other players, but don’t get so lost in either your cards or the players that you miss something else of importance.

9. Don’t play the high limits. A high limit means you lose more money when you lose. Play what you can afford and are comfortable with losing.

10. Lastly bet at your skill and bankroll level. If you are in a high stakes game, but can’t afford it you will end up losing because you are concentrating more on your money than at the plays going on around you.

Don’t get over confident. Winning is great, but more than anything know when to quit. If you keep playing you could lose more by being cocky than being reasonable. No one cares for a cocky player; it just creates bad moods.
